The opening session provides an introduction into Deutsche Telekom’s motivations for striving to become a leading sustainable telco, and presents Deutsche Telekom’s next level climate strategy. 

Melanie Kubin-Hardewig is Vice President, Group Sustainability Management at Deutsche Telekom. In her role she is responsible for a wide range of sustainability topics from environmental to social aspects, including sustainable supply chains and finance as well as the development of DT’s targets and KPIs. She is also helming DT’s #greenmagenta initiative. Melanie has previously held various management roles at different entities of Deutsche Telekom. She is a trained lawyer and holds an MBA.

Bertrand Piccard is a psychiatrist and serial explorer who made history by accomplishing two aeronautical firsts – flying around the world non-stop in a balloon, and more recently in a solar-powered airplane. Pioneering a view of ecology through the lens of profitability, he has been promoting renewable energies and clean technologies as Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation since the early 2000s, successfully selecting 1000 profitable solutions that protect the environment and support clean growth.

Claudia Nemat is member of the Deutsche Telekom Board of Management and responsible for the Board area Technology and Innovation. She is a physicist, thinker, and your Telekom MWC 21 host. Donya Amer is CEO at Bosch Climate Solutions. Having joined Bosch in 2017, she was responsible for the internal business interface as part of the Bosch IT management team before taking over as CEO of the Bosch Climate Solutions start-up in 2020. After earning a degree in business administration, Donya started her career with IBM in Frankfurt. In her 17 years with the company, she held customer-facing and consulting-related positions in various areas of business.

Panel „No sustainability without sustainable technology“

From niche to mass market: Deutsche Telekom and Samsung have joined forces for the past couple of years, promoting sustainability in the telco industry by working on sustainable packaging or the Eco Rating initiative. Extending their partnership, the two companies will bring their joint ambition to the next level and collaborate on future concepts and outstanding joint innovations, meeting the needs of a new generation of conscious customers. This session includes pre-recorded statements by Claudia Nemat and Stephanie Choi, followed by a moderated panel discussion.

Birgit Klesper is Senior Vice President Group Corporate Responsibility at Deutsche Telekom. Since 2006, she has held various management positions in areas such as Corporate Communications, Future Work and Transformational Change. The trained journalist previously headed group-wide corporate communications at Wella and worked for Tchibo and Philip Morris. Birgit is chair of the econsense board and member of various boards such as Global e-Sustainability Initiative and Aktion Deutschland hilft.

Sandeep Rana has been with Samsung Electronics since 2008 and is the European lead on environmental sustainability issues. Prior to joining Samsung, she worked in environmental consultancy. Previously based in London, Sandeep spent time in the global headquarters in South Korea and relocated to Brussels in 2018 in order to be closer to policy makers and the drive for the economy to be more circular.
