5G and Edge are cornerstones in enabling time-critical applications in areas such as XR, robotics or cloud game streaming. However, markets for these types of applications are still nascent. So, what is hindering mass adoption of these applications? The challenge of these data-intensive services is ensuring low and stable latency for a lag-free user experience. Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom recently launched a joint white paper, proving Low Latency Low Loss Scalable Throughput (L4S) as a true 5G service innovation to support high data rate applications on low and reliably stable latency.

Dominik Schnieders is Head of Edge Computing and Innovation Lead at Deutsche Telekom focusing on enabling latency-critical applications in telecommunication networks. He previously worked as program manager for the development and rollout of Narrowband-IoT and headed the product development of an IoT platform. Before joining DT in 2014, Dominik worked for 16 years in the automotive industry for BMW. Dominik holds a M.Sc. in electrical engineering and industrial engineering from TU Munich.

Ali Zaidi is Strategic Product Manager for Cellular IoT at Ericsson, also serving as the company’s Head of IoT Competence. Since joining Ericsson in 2014, Ali has been working on technology and business development of 4G and 5G radio access. He is currently responsible for Ericsson’s radio products for time-critical communication, industrial automation, XR and automotive. Zaidi holds a Ph.D. in telecommunications and an M.Sc. in innovation management from KTH Royal Institute of Tech, Sweden.
