Bruce Schneier: The Coming AI Hackers

Hacking is a creative process,’ argues cyber security specialist Bruce Schneier in his keynote “The Coming AI Hackers”. It's about finding vulnerability in a system: something the system allows but is unintended by its creators. It follows the rules of the system but subverts its intent. Normally, we think of hacking as something done to computers, but we can extend hacking to any system of rules – taxes, financial markets, laws, even democracy itself. While hacking itself is deeply human, AI can hack as well, finding vulnerabilities in code and loopholes in contracts. After the keynote, Bruce Schneier and Claudia Nemat will talk about a world where hacks on our social, economic, and political systems are exploited faster than ever, while we still "patch" them at human speeds. Will that be enough – and what can we do about it?
